TechX Florida 2024 Memory Gallery

Six months ago, TechX Florida was just an ambitious idea. Our newly elected E-Board members were scattered during the summer break, many of us having barely met in person. Fast forward to December 2024, and we’ve successfully hosted the first-ever TechX mini-conference on Internet of Things across the U.S. and Canada! With over 100 students and professionals in attendance, we cannot be any prouder of this semester’s biggest milestone. Words alone will not capture our deepest excitement and gratitude, so we invite you to join us in reliving the highlights of this unforgettable event.
The day kicked off with inspiring remarks from IEEE-CS Professional Chapters, who shared their vision for the future of IEEE-CS Region 3 and upcoming initiatives.Their words set an inspiring tone for the day, emphasizing the importance of fostering innovation and collaboration within our community.
Jon Pellant, our first speaker, wowed the audience with a live demonstration of the Smart Antenna Rotator - an impressive example of IoT design in action. His hands-on approach and engaging delivery left attendees buzzing with questions and ideas.
Next, our next speaker Rajeev Aswal, took the stage with confidence, sharing highlights from his 20-year journey of groundbreaking IoT innovations. From smart homes to smart cities, his talk was as insightful as it was inspiring, leaving the audience motivated to help shape the future of IoT.
During the lunch break, students and professionals mingled, exchanging ideas and building connections. The breakout session was filled with moments of mentorship and collaboration as students shared their goals and sought advice from experienced professionals. And of course, the cheesesteak pizzas were a hit - seeing everyone enjoying them definitely added to the fun!
The energy throughout the event was incredible, reminding us why we took on this ambitious project. That wraps up the first chapter of our journey through TechX Florida. Stay tuned for the next part as we continue exploring the exciting world of IoT together!
The afternoon of TechX kicked off with an engaging hands-on workshop led by our Hardware Lead, Liam. Participants dove into building personal temperature trackers, each equipped with a complimentary Argon Particle board and components. True to our commitment to learning, our dedicated TA team was there every step of the way, ensuring no question went unanswered.
The knowledge sharing continued with John's compelling presentation on system security. Drawing from real-world experience, he emphasized the crucial integration of security measures that align with business objectives – highlighting the importance of building security into the design process rather than treating it as an afterthought.
Then our next speaker, Mark, delivered a fascinating finale, taking us deep into the Zero Trust Principle for IoT devices and Industrial Control Systems. His masterful use of visual graphics brought complex concepts to life, leaving our audience both informed and inspired.
As TechX Florida comes to a close, we are already looking ahead. IEEE-CS @ USF is gearing up for an exciting spring semester packed with educational and engaging events. And speaking of what's next... let's just say the "Horizon" looks particularly promising!
